Bronze Pieces – take a walk here...
Iowa City Literary Walk:
Running along three blocks on both sides of Iowa Avenue between the
Old State Capitol Building and Iowa University is Literary Walk. The
Walk features a series of forty-nine bronze pieces set into the
sidewalk, intertwined with literary quotes stamped into the adjacent
pavement. A civic committee, including members of the Iowa Writers
Workshop, selected quotations from the works of authors with
connections to Iowa. Each bronze piece commemorates and reflects the
work of a different author, and the entire Walk provides an "everyday
celebration" of the State's literary heritage.
Library Walk:
This series of one hundred pieces, set on both sides of 41st Street
from Park Avenue to Fifth Avenue, is designed to lead the viewer
up to the main branch of the public library. Each bronze relief panel
is based on a quotation about literature, as chosen by librarians
throughout the United States. Some pieces are subtle visual
extensions of the original texts, others are educational, and some use
humor to create comic "reliefs."
Andrews LeFevre Studios: http://www.andrewslefevre.com
The creative team of Gregg LeFevre and Jennifer Andrews has created
over 200 site specific public art works which provide insight about
the nature and character of their particular locations. Their work has
been commissioned by a number of American cities, including New York
City, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Miami. The studio
often illustrates in metal relief or with paving materials the traits
that contribute to the unique personality of a place. The history of
an area, its cultural, environmental and architectural landmarks,
ethnic heritage, even its popular myths and local humor are rendered
in relief or with color. As individual artists, they maintain active
photography and painting careers respectively, and have exhibited
widely across the US. Gregg has received grants from the Browne Fund,
the National Endowment for the Arts and the Coleman Award, and
Jennifer been an artist in residence in countries from the Netherlands
to Vietnam.
