José Ángel Rodríguez was born in Peñón Blanco, Durango in 1954, spent several years assisting Mañuel Alvarez Bravo in Mexico City. For the last three decades his realm has been that of the indigenous cultures of Mexico and Central America, his work known for its powerful sense of the soul. His portraits of  people and their personal landscapes have been published in many collections, among them his Vidas Ceremoniales, Imágenes de Chiapas, and Refugiados Guatemaltecos. He, his wife Monique Beaudoin and daughter Sara presently divide their time between San Cristóbal, Chiapas, and Sudbury, Ontario.
