Strange Attractors

Edward Lorenz, the father of Chaos Theory, dies in Cambridge.
Somewhere, a butterfly twitches. Toronto Star, May 4, 2008

Tweezers, glittering
silver pins piled up in plastic cups. You, relaxed
for easy mounting, hung out
to dry.

Initial conditions looked good;
no tornadoes on the horizon. An errant
wing flap:           how we lean in
when we think no one is looking.

The orbit between us
engraved. I’ve been told

the killing jar leaves less chance
of damage, that it’s easier to control
the outcome, but

at this rate I’ll be up all night trying
to pin down this still life
                                          in the right order.
